Ghoraghat: Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming students into a skilled workforce through modern and quality education. He made these remarks as the chief guest at a cheque distribution programme for underprivileged and disadvantaged groups at the Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Zahid highlighted the importance of equipping students with proper knowledge and skills to ensure that they do not fall behind. He stated, “We want good people and quality education. Through education, we want to turn every boy and girl in the area into qualified and skilled manpower.” He further explained that the primary objective of the government is to transform the population into valuable human resources.
Dr Zahid also discussed the significance of leadership by good people in society, emphasizing that it would lead to a decrease in injustice and the emergence of a disciplined and humane Bangladesh. Highlighting the government’s support for economically disadvantaged people, he said, “We are trying to extend some assistance to those facing financial hardship. This is part of that effort.”
The event was chaired by Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdul Al Mamun Kawsar Sheikh. Other notable attendees included Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Solaiman Mehdi Hasan, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Ghoraghat-Hakimpur Circle Md. Haris Uddin, and Upazila Social Services Officer Md. Masud Rana, among others.
During the programme, 200 underprivileged men and women from Chakbamunia Bishwanathpur village received 15 kilograms of rice each, while 100 individuals were provided with Taka 1,000 each as Eid assistance. Earlier, the minister distributed special grant cheques totaling Taka 1.25 million to 33 students, five helpless and sick individuals, and five persons with disabilities at the upazila parishad auditorium.
