Narayanganj: Former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy has been shown arrested in connection with the murder of Selim Mondal in Siddhirganj during the student movement in 2024. Additional Superintendent of Narayanganj district police, Tarek Al Mehedi, confirmed Ivy’s arrest on Thursday afternoon following a court order.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred during an arson attack on July 20, 2024, amid an anti-discrimination student movement. Interior worker Selim Mondal, along with two other workers, was tragically killed while engaged in interior decoration inside a bank office when the building was set on fire.
Police investigations led to the submission of a petition by the Investigating Officer (IO) to the court, implicating Dr. Ivy in the incident. The court granted the petition, resulting in her formal arrest following the completion of legal procedures.
Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy has been implicated in numerous cases and has been in jail since her initial arrest on May 9, 2025, according to police reports.
