Dhaka: State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhit has instructed the authorities to expedite the completion of 40 ICU beds at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH). The order came during his visit to the hospital’s Asthma Center, where the new ICU facilities are under construction. This visit follows a discussion held in honor of World Tuberculosis Day.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, hospital sources revealed that the ICU block will be established by renovating an abandoned area of the hospital. Once the facilities become operational, they are expected to lessen patients’ reliance on private hospitals for treating complex chest diseases and respiratory conditions.
Dr. Muhit emphasized the urgent need for the ICU unit to be operational to provide accessible and affordable healthcare. He noted that the initiative aligns with the broader goal of creating a healthier Bangladesh and ensuring that all citizens, especially those from low-income backgrounds, receive quality healthcare at minimal costs.
During his visit, the state minister also offered guidance on enhancing the hospital’s overall environment and expanding its healthcare services.
