Dhaka: The 2025-2026 domestic cricket season in Bangladesh is set to kick off with the National Cricket League (NCL) T20 version, as announced by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Akram Khan. This noteworthy development marks a shift in the traditional schedule of the cricket season in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akram Khan, who is also a former Bangladesh captain, revealed that the NCL T20 will take place in September this year. Originally, there was a plan to commence the season with the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), but the decision was revised to prioritize the NCL T20.
Akram Khan explained that the decision to start with the NCL T20 was influenced by the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players’ draft. The platform provided by the NCL T20 is seen as essential preparation for players ahead of the draft. The cricket season is now scheduled to begin with the NCL T20, followed by the BPL, then the NCL, and finally the BCL.
The previous edition of the NCL T20 took place in 2024, where Rangpur Division claimed victory over Dhaka Metro in the final match. This upcoming season promises to offer exciting opportunities and exposure for players in the domestic cricket circuit.
