Dhaka: The Department of Environment (DoE), in cooperation with several agencies, carried out a comprehensive anti-pollution drive across Dhaka. The operation involved 10 mobile courts, including three directly managed by the DoE.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative was supported by the BRTA, city corporations, RAJUK, and law enforcement agencies. Two courts focused on noise pollution in the IEB and Uttara areas, filing five cases and seizing 12 hydraulic horns, which resulted in fines amounting to TK 11,000.
In the IEB area, another court penalized vehicles emitting excessive black smoke, resulting in TK 70,000 in fines across 15 cases. Efforts to combat air pollution from construction materials in Basila and Uttara Diabari led to eight cases and fines totaling TK 1,55,000.
A separate court in Uttara took action against the production and sale of banned polythene, filing five cases and collecting TK 19,000 in fines. Awareness leaflets were distributed to inform the public about pollution-related issues.
The DoE indicated that similar anti-pollution initiatives will be conducted in Dhaka and other regions.
