Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus today praised the dedication and bravery of doctors who served during the July mass uprising, calling them heroes. 'You are a living symbol of courage, humanity, and sense of responsibility. We will never forget the services you have rendered during the difficult time,' he stated in a video message at the July commemoration program for health workers at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Center. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof. Yunus began his speech by expressing deep shock over a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crash into Milestone School and College, calling it a moment of deep sorrow for the nation. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery for those injured. Prof. Yunus acknowledged the contributions of doctors and health workers during the crisis, emphasizing their role as a beacon of hope amidst panic and fear. He expressed the nation's gratitude to those who continued to serve despite fatigue a nd danger. Highlighting the challenges faced by medical professionals during the July uprising, Prof. Yunus noted that despite international law recognizing their duty to treat the injured, doctors in Bangladesh faced unprecedented obstacles. The fascist government at the time attempted to prevent treatment, yet medical staff persevered in secret, risking their lives. Prof. Yunus shared harrowing stories of doctors and nurses who treated injured protesters in secret, setting up temporary clinics in garages and homes. Many doctors took extraordinary measures to protect patients' identities, avoiding arrest by altering medical records and prescriptions. The Chief Adviser commended the selfless actions of health workers who surmounted numerous challenges, such as blood shortages and lack of medical supplies, to provide care. He highlighted their bravery in going to government hospitals to treat patients discreetly, arranging for necessary equipment and medicines independently. Prof. Yunus concluded by expres sing profound gratitude and respect to all health workers and doctors who courageously fulfilled their duties during the uprising, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the nation.
