Cumilla: A doa mahfil was held in the district today seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of former BNP Chairperson and three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The event was organised by the BNP of Ward No. 12 of Cumilla city at Hochhamia High School ground this noon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the gathering was attended by Monirul Haque Chowdhury, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Cumilla-6 constituency, as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included central BNP member Syed Jahangir Alam, Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Yusuf Molla Tipu, Organizing Secretary Rajiur Rahman Rajib, South District BNP Senior Vice President Amiruzzaman Bhuiyan, Organizing Secretary Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan Swapan, former Metropolitan Swechchhasebak Dal president Nizam Uddin Kaiser, and former Metropolitan BNP joint convener Ataur Rahman Chuti. Leaders and activists from various BNP wings and affiliated organisations were also present.
The programme was organised by Jubo Dal leaders Mohiuddin Hossain and Saiful Islam Roni. During the event, Monirul Haque Chowdhury spoke about Begum Khaleda Zia, describing her as a “staunch leader of democracy” and “a champion for the freedom-loving people of the country” who never compromised with oppressors. He emphasized that inspired by her resolute leadership, the BNP will continue to work towards building a prosperous Bangladesh.
