Dhaka: The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has conducted two separate drives to evict over 400 illegal shops from the city’s Agargaon and Uttara areas. These operations aimed to clear the roads of encroachments and alleviate traffic congestion.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first eviction drive was led by Executive Magistrate of Zone 5, Mohammad Saiful Islam, along with Executive Magistrate of the DNCC, Md Shahidul Islam, in the Agargaon area. The team successfully removed shops along both sides of the road stretching from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University to the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. This initiative freed nearly one and a half kilometers of road from illegal encroachments, significantly easing traffic congestion in the area.

In a parallel effort, another drive was spearheaded by Executive Magistrate Md Sadekur Rahman at Uttara sector-10. This operation targeted the stretch from the Uttara Sluice Gate area to the Kamarpara area, resulting in the eviction of over 200 illegal shops. Consequently, more than half a kilometre of road was cleared, providing relief from traffic congestion.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ezaz had announced in a recent public hearing that an eviction drive would be conducted in the DNCC area following Pahela Baishakh.
