Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan today directed those involved in mosquito control to work with utmost sincerity and commitment. He also said Dhaka city’s mosquito control programme needs to be further strengthened.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the administrator made the directives while speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day training programme on Integrated Vector Management (IVM) and Basic Pest Control Techniques organised by the DNCC Health Department at Nagar Bhaban. Speaking as the chief guest, the city administrator emphasized the importance of practical knowledge over theoretical knowledge.
Stating that the city dwellers are experiencing issues with mosquitoes, he highlighted the need for a strong commitment and continuous maximum effort. He noted that even if 100% success is not achieved, sincere efforts could help reach the desired goal. Shafiqul also pointed out that controlling mosquitoes largely depends on the work of field workers.
He mentioned the close relationship between waste management and mosquito control activities, stating that DNCC is actively implementing waste management initiatives. The DNCC administrator assured that if everyone performs their responsibilities properly, it will provide some relief to the city residents.
He announced incentives for those who excel in mosquito control efforts, stating that they would be rewarded by the city corporation. The event was presided over by DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury. Special guest Entomologist Dr Kabirul Bashar, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Public Health Specialist Dr Benazir Ahmed, and senior DNCC officials were present.
