Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are set to embark on a joint campaign aimed at halting the movement of battery-run auto-rickshaws by sealing off their production and charging centers. ‘The DMP has by now prepared a list of battery-run workshops which produce auto-rickshaws and their charging centres, they will be sealed off overnight under a joint campaign,’ DNCC administrator Mohammad Ejaj stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ejaj called for the support of the capital’s residents, emphasizing that community involvement is crucial for the success of the initiative. He encouraged residents to raise their voices against illegal battery-run rickshaws and street vendors, suggesting that such collective action would facilitate the campaign’s objectives. He also urged residents to prevent the entry of these auto-rickshaws into their households and residential complexes.
Ejaj made these remarks during the inauguration of road, footpath, and drainage system construction in the Mirpur area as part of DNCC’s seven package programs. This initiative aims to construct 20 kilometers of road, 34 kilometers of drainage system, and 15 kilometers of walkways or footpaths in areas covering DNCC’s ward numbers 6, 7, and 8.
Furthermore, Ejaj urged members of various housing societies to adhere to approved construction plans and to disallow commercial installations in residential areas. He advised potential buyers to verify the mouja of land before purchasing flats or houses and to ensure that the lands were not water bodies to avoid future complications.
Additionally, Ejaj encouraged city dwellers to develop open spaces into green areas by planting large trees instead of smaller plants. The event was attended by DNCC chief executive officer Abu Sayeed Mohammad Kamruzzaman, chief engineer Brigadier General M Moin Uddin, additional chief engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, zonal executive officer M Ziaur Rahman, superintendent engineer Khandkar Mahbub Alam, and the convener of the North city unit of BNP, Aminul Haque.
