DHAKA: The Additional Police Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, has committed to transforming the police force into a public-centric institution, emphasizing accountability and community partnership. Speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting organized by the Citizen Forum in the Kalabagan Thana area, Ali underscored the need for police to serve as a supportive and service-oriented entity rather than an oppressive one.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ali articulated a vision for the DMP that prioritizes public trust and safety, urging residents to collaborate with law enforcement to enhance crime control and law and order. He emphasized that accountability to the public is paramount, as it directly relates to the level of security and service provided by the police. Ali called for a collective effort to build a better nation with the active support and involvement of its citizens.

Ali highlighted the significance of community involvement in crime prevention and law enforcement. He encouraged residents to ensure the proper functioning and backup of CCTV systems in their homes and institutions, as these could prove crucial in investigating incidents and maintaining safety. The meeting was attended by various officials from the DMP’s Ramna Division, along with leaders from political, social, professional, and religious organizations, as well as heads of educational institutions and student movement leaders.
