Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar on Thursday announced a strategic plan to install a total of 11,000 CCTV cameras across the capital city, with the goal of controlling juvenile gangs, theft, mugging, and other crimes. A significant portion of this initiative will focus on Mohammadpur, where 700 cameras are to be set up.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the DMP chief made these remarks during the inauguration of the Basila Police Camp in Mohammadpur. He emphasized that the area is known for its high crime rate, and the installation of the cameras is aimed at curbing the activities of juvenile gangs, terrorism, and mugging. The DMP also plans to establish another police outpost in the area to bolster security measures.

The Commissioner highlighted that additional police forces have already been deployed at the newly inaugurated outpost in Mohammadpur. Moreover, additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC), Assistant Commissioners (AC), and Patrol Inspectors have been assigned to 50 thanas across Dhaka, with plans to recruit 600 more police members to strengthen law enforcement.

Responding to queries about incidents of killing in Mohammadpur Geneva Camp after August 5, 2024, Sarwar reassured that law enforcement agencies are implementing effective measures. He mentioned that intelligence activities in the area have been intensified, with the collaboration of police, RAB, and DB to address the issues, especially under the new government.

The Commissioner noted that members of juvenile gangs are frequently involved in criminal activities using sharp weapons, and efforts are underway to identify and bring these individuals to justice. When questioned about potential threats in handling such crimes, he stated that the police do not view these challenges as threats but are prepared to tackle them head-on.

He concluded by mentioning that more officers and forces will be deployed at Mohammadpur outposts, and necessary arrangements, including accommodation facilities, will be expanded to support the ongoing efforts.
