Dhaka:The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is set to implement maximum security measures to ensure the peaceful celebration of Sharadiya Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the Hindu community, throughout the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed emphasized the police's commitment to maintaining safety and security at every puja mandap in Dhaka. He made these remarks during a meeting focused on security, law and order, and traffic management for the festival at the DMP Headquarters.

The commissioner described this year's Durga Puja as a significant challenge, as it will be the first major Hindu religious festival under the current democratic government. Comprehensive security plans have been established, covering the period from Mahalaya through the Durga Puja celebrations and the immersion of idols.

Every puja mandap will be monitored with CCTV, and mandap in-charges will use body-worn cameras. Police personnel, both in uniform and plainclothes, will be deployed, with SWAT, Crisis Response Team, Quick Response Team, crime scene vans, and bomb disposal units ready to handle emergencies.

The DMP chief called on puja committee leaders to remain vigilant and ensure the security of their mandaps. He advised them to monitor everyone entering the premises and to contact the National Emergency Service 999 or nearby police stations if necessary.

Expressing hope for a safe and festive Durga Puja, the DMP commissioner highlighted the importance of collective efforts. Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented detailed plans for security, law-and-order, and traffic management.

Puja committee representatives requested full cooperation from the DMP to secure the puja mandaps and manage traffic smoothly during the festival. The meeting included senior DMP officials, puja committee leaders, and representatives from various religious and community organizations.
