Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police has adopted a coordinated, technology-based and multi-dimensional security plan to ensure safety during Eid-ul-Azha congregations and protect residential and commercial areas that may remain vacant during the holidays. DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed announced this in a briefing after inspecting security arrangements at the National Eidgah Ground in Dhaka today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Eid-ul-Azha is one of the largest religious festivals for Muslims, drawing significant gatherings at Eid congregations across the capital, including the National Eidgah Ground and Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. During this period, many residents leave Dhaka, leaving several residential and business areas partially empty. Taking into account the overall situation, past experiences, current security concerns, and potential risks, DMP has formulated a comprehensive security strategy.
The DMP Commissioner outlined that four to six layers of security have been arranged around the National Eidgah Ground. Sweeping operations will be conducted by SB teams and CTTC’s K-9 Dog Squad. CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the Eidgah area and nearby important points, with continuous monitoring from a temporary DMP control room. Security measures will also include archways, hand metal detectors, and manual searches at all entry points. Special barricade and screening arrangements will be in place at key access points like Matsya Bhaban Crossing, Press Club area, and High Court Crossing.
Additionally, watch towers and drone surveillance will be utilized to monitor the overall situation from the air. Plainclothes members of DB and CTTC units, along with uniformed police personnel, will be deployed for intelligence surveillance. SWAT, Bomb Disposal Unit, and Counter Terrorism Unit will remain on standby to respond to any emergency situation. Separate prayer arrangements, entry gates, and security measures have been ensured for women worshippers. Fire service units and emergency medical teams will also be prepared during the Eid congregation.
A ‘Lost and Found Center’ will be established inside the National Eidgah police sub-control room to assist worshippers with lost belongings and announcements. Special traffic management measures will be effective in and around the National Eidgah area from 6:00 am until the completion of Eid prayers. The Commissioner urged city dwellers to arrive early, cooperate with security checks, avoid carrying bags, sharp objects, or flammable materials, and follow traffic diversion and parking instructions. He also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity to on-duty police officers or the national emergency service 999.
For the security of vacant areas in Dhaka during the Eid holidays, mobile patrols, foot patrols, and motorcycle patrols have been intensified. Special surveillance has also increased at banks, ATM booths, shopping malls, markets, and other key establishments. The DMP cyber unit is conducting round-the-clock monitoring to prevent rumors, misinformation, and provocative propaganda on social media during the Eid period. Any attempt to destabilize law and order through rumors or incitement will be dealt with strictly.
