Dhaka:Extensive security measures have been implemented by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to ensure the peaceful and safe celebration of Sharadiya Durga Puja in the city, as announced by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commissioner Ahmed emphasized that Durga Puja is a major religious festival for the Hindu community, with police maintaining round-the-clock security at puja mandaps. This year, 257 mandaps in the capital will host the festival, with 2,072 police personnel deployed to ensure overall security.

The police have categorized the mandaps based on importance, expected number of devotees, and current conditions. Law enforcement officers will remain vigilant, backed by CCTV monitoring. Security at crucial mandaps will be enhanced with archway installations for better screening.

Coordination among different DMP units will be key to maintaining security, with regular patrols and surveillance for suspicious activities. SWAT teams, explosive recovery units, and other specialized squads will be on standby to address emergencies.

For the Bijoya Dashami idol immersion, a special security plan has been arranged, with the procession starting at Dhakeshwari National Temple and concluding at Waizeghat. Additional police will be assigned along the procession route.

Efforts have been increased to monitor cyber activities to prevent misinformation on social media. The commissioner encouraged reporting any suspicious activities to police or the national emergency service.

Cooperation among law enforcement, puja committees, and the public is crucial for a safe festival, Ahmed noted. He urged adherence to security guidelines and expressed hope for a peaceful celebration supported by effective security measures.
