DMP Disposes of 4,051 Criminal and Traffic Cases in February

Dhaka: The Special Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of a total of 4,051 criminal and traffic cases through summary trial courts in February. Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) of the DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DMP Law Officer (District Judge) Mohammad Ataul Haque reported that the Special Metropolitan Magistrate handled 2,273 criminal cases during the month. A total of 3,706 individuals were arrested by various DMP divisions, including Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh, and Uttara, and were brought before the summary trial courts.



Among these individuals, 2,113 were sentenced to different terms of punishment, and fines totaling Tk 2,32,950 were imposed. Additionally, the traffic divisions of DMP, which include Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh, and Uttara, filed 1,833 traffic cases in February.



The Special Metropolitan Magistrate disposed of 1,778 of these traffic cases, which included 359 cases filed in the current month, imposing fines amounting to Tk 6,44,400. Officials stated that under the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, non-serious offences and crimes punishable with lighter penalties can be tried through summary trials in the Special Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
