Disaster Preparedness Must Be Ensured at All Times: Minister

Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu emphasized that disasters strike without prior warning and can suddenly engulf lives and settlements, highlighting the need for constant preparedness to mitigate their impacts. “Disasters do not come with prior notice. They strike suddenly and affect lives and localities. Therefore, we must remain prepared at all times to reduce the suffering caused by disasters,” he stated.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while addressing a discussion organized by the ministry to mark the National Disaster Preparedness Day-2026 at the Secretariat this afternoon. He participated as the chief guest of the event.



He further stated that Bangladesh has become a role model in handling natural disasters and emphasized the necessity of utilizing all possible means to tackle man-made disasters as well. “To achieve this, cooperation, compassion, determination, courage, coordination, harmony and solidarity are essential,” he added.



National Disaster Preparedness Day is observed on March 10 every year. This year, the theme of the day is “We will fight in disaster preparedness, build a Bangladesh of youth.”



The programme was chaired by Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan. State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain, Additional Secretary K M Abdul Wadud, and Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman also spoke at the event.
