Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik, has urged officials to evaluate the damage caused by the earthquake that impacted the country this morning. The 5.7-magnitude earthquake affected the capital city and various other regions at 10:38 am, as reported by the Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser has directed field-level officials to keep a vigilant eye on the situation and promptly assess the potential damages. A ministry press release stated that, following the damage assessment, necessary measures will be implemented with public safety as the top priority.
In response to the earthquake, a control room was promptly established at the Disaster Management Department. The department has disseminated a contact number, 0258811651, for public inquiries. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid spreading or believing in rumours.
Tragically, six fatalities have been reported across the country, including in Dhaka, as the earthquake struck various parts of the nation on Friday morning.
