Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi emphasized the need for Bangladesh and India to overcome past differences and to work collaboratively towards a future characterized by mutual trust and cooperation. Trivedi's remarks came during a reception for Bangladeshi business leaders and a visiting delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at The Westin Dhaka.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Trivedi highlighted the aspirations of the younger generations in both countries, urging leaders to focus on creating opportunities for prosperity and a better future. He stressed the importance of resolving historical issues through dialogue and engagement, noting that any lasting relationship must be built on 'mutual and unconditional trust.'
Addressing the audience, which included State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe, Trivedi pointed out that both countries are aspirational, with young people eager for opportunities. He emphasized the roles of economic and people-to-people ties, urging the private sector to bridge existing gaps and strengthen bilateral relations.
Trivedi shared an assurance from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about an upcoming visit by the Bangladesh Prime Minister to India, promising an honorable reception. The visit, he suggested, would be memorable and beneficial for both nations. He also conveyed Modi's commitment to addressing outstanding issues through direct communication between the leaders of the two countries.
The High Commissioner underscored India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy, reflecting New Delhi's commitment to strengthening its relationship with Bangladesh. He acknowledged past challenges but emphasized the importance of not allowing them to overshadow the shared history and culture that bind the two nations.
Trivedi praised the Bangladeshi Prime Minister as a 'people's person' and highlighted recent high-level engagements as evidence of India's eagerness to enhance ties. He expressed hope for a new phase in bilateral relations, driven by youth and shared objectives, and called on the business communities of both countries to actively participate in this journey towards closer cooperation.
The CII delegation, led by Director General Chandrajit Banerjee, engaged in discussions focused on mutual interests and emerging areas of cooperation. The visit underscored the potential for greater economic and commercial collaboration, with business leaders from prominent Indian companies exploring new opportunities with their Bangladeshi counterparts.
