Dhaka:A court has placed Dilip Kumar Agarwala, Managing Director of Diamond World, on a one-day remand in connection with a money laundering case initiated by Gulshan Police Station.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam after police presented Agarwala in court, requesting a three-day remand for further investigation.

Agarwala was apprehended by a team from the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the Banani area on October 19. Case documents reveal that between September 6, 2006, and February 8, 2024, Diamond World imported gold bars, jewelry, and loose diamonds valued at Taka 38.47 crore legally through letters of credit. However, they also acquired gold and diamonds worth approximately Taka 678.19 crore from the local market without valid documentation for the sources and suppliers, leading to suspicions of smuggling.

The case was officially filed under the Money Laundering Prevention Act on November 17, 2025, by CID Inspector Mohammad Asaduzzaman Sheikh.
