Dhaka: Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Chief Reporter (Bangla) Didarul Alam and its Chief Reporter (English) G M Rajib Hossain have been elected as the unit chief and deputy unit chief, respectively, of the BSS unit of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ). The election, which took place at the BSS office, saw members casting their votes directly to select their leaders for the next two years.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 24 members participated in the voting process. Didarul Alam emerged as the unit chief, securing 18 votes, while G M Rajib Hossain was elected as the deputy unit chief with 19 votes. The election process was overseen by DUJ Organising Secretary M Sayed Khan, under the supervision of DUJ General Secretary Khurshid Alam.
The election event was preceded by a meeting chaired by DUJ President Shahidul Islam. The meeting featured addresses from notable figures, including former BSS News Editor Mumtaz Bilkis Banu, former BSS unit chiefs Abul Kalam Manik, Kazim Reza, and Anwar Uddin, as well as Jatiya Press Club Treasurer Bakhtiar Rana. Other attendees included Dhaka Reporters Unity’s former President Mursalin Nomani, former DUJ Treasurer Zahirul Haque Rana, current DUJ Treasurer Khandaker Alamgir Hossain, Jatiya Press Club Management Committee member Md Momin Hossain, and DUJ Executive member Gazi Anwarul Haque.
The election was also attended by BSS News Editor and senior journalist Ghulam Ahad, BSS Chief News Editor (English) Md Manikul Azad, Chief News Editor (Bangla) Md Aktaruzzaman, and former Chief News Editors Rahim Uddin and Harun Al Nasif. Deputy Chief News Editors Muhammad Abdul Baten and Junan Nashit, Sports In-charge Raschida Afzalunnesa, and Special Correspondent Moazzem Hossain Chowdhury Rokon were among those present during the election proceedings.
