Dhaka: Train services between Dhaka and the northern and southern parts of the country resumed on Thursday after six hours of suspension following the derailment of a freight train at Lahirimohonpur Railway Station in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Assistant Station Master of Lahirimohonpur Railway Station Atiqur Rahman stated that the wheels of the guard brake van of a Khulna-bound goods-laden train from Ibrahimabad Railway Station in Sirajganj veered off the tracks in the Dahkula area of Lahirimohonpur station around 9:15 pm on Wednesday. This incident led to significant disruptions for passengers.
Three trains remained stranded on the Dhaka-Ishwardi route after the accident, causing additional inconvenience to passengers. A relief train from Ishwardi was dispatched to the scene at night to conduct the rescue operation. The railway authorities successfully restored the train line around 3:15 am on Thursday, six hours after the disruption.
A divisional committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
