Dhaka: Iranian envoy in Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi has said his country has no concern over any decision regarding possible joining of Bangladesh in the Makkah Peace Pact. 'Tehran considers Dhaka's foreign policy balanced and does not view the initiative as directed against Iran,' the ambassador told journalists after a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir in the ministry today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ambassador emphasized Iran's understanding of Bangladesh's foreign policy, characterizing it as balanced. He reassured that any decision made by the Bangladesh government does not concern or worry Iran. Jahanabadi further clarified that Iran does not see the Makkah Pact as an initiative against the country, rather as a sign of the United States' security weakness in the Middle East.
Jahanabadi stated that Iran maintains good relations with Saudi Arabia and has friendly ties with Trkiye and Pakistan. Hence, Iran holds no concerns regarding the Makkah Peace Pact. When questioned about Iran's interest in joining the proposed pact, the envoy mentioned that Iran had not submitted any formal request or proposal. However, he stated that Iran would consider any invitation from the pact's member states.
The ambassador recalled Iran's previous proposal for a similar regional security arrangement, advocating for a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East and a joint defense pact among Islamic countries. He reaffirmed that Iran does not perceive the Makkah Pact as a threat.
Addressing recent military confrontations involving Iran and the United States, Jahanabadi noted that Iran targeted US military installations in the region without infringing on the sovereignty of Arab states. During the meeting, State Minister Kobir expressed Bangladesh's hope for an end to regional tensions and for enduring peace and stability, in the interest of people both within and beyond the region. The meeting also involved discussions on mutual interests, as per a Foreign Ministry press release.
