Foreign Secretary Md Jasim Uddin today sought continued Canadian support for ongoing reforms under the Bangladesh's interim government. He made the call while hosting a farewell luncheon for departing Canadian High Commissioner Dr Lilly Nicholls at the State Guest House Padma in the capital, a foreign ministry's press release said here. Prior to the luncheon, the two diplomats discussed various aspects of the Bangladesh-Canada bilateral relationship, it added. During the meeting, the foreign secretary highlighted the recent student-led uprising in Bangladesh as a revolutionary event that has created space to reform the country towards a democratic future free from discrimination. Dr Nicholls reaffirmed Canada's commitment to supporting the interim government and its reform efforts. She described the Bangladesh-Canada relationship as "multifaceted" and expressed optimism about further collaboration. The envoy also thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support throughout her tenure.
