Dhaka: In a strategic move to ensure neutrality and stability during the upcoming national elections, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has transferred Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of 50 police stations. The transfer order, signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Sazzad Ali, is effective immediately, as detailed in a DMP notification.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman explained that this significant reshuffle at the field level aims to maintain a stable law-and-order situation and ensure that duties are executed properly. The officers-in-charge have a crucial role as they directly engage with the public to provide services.
Previously, the interim government appointed 527 OCs through a newly introduced lottery system across the country, as stated by Assistant Inspector General (Media) at the Police Headquarters AHM Sahadat Hossaine. Additionally, on November 26, the Ministry of Home Affairs appointed Superintendents of Police (SPs) in 64 districts using a similar lottery process, under a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
