Dhaka: Bangladesh and India on Friday discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries as both sides eye stronger people-centric relations in the future. Bangladesh High Commissioner to India M Riaz Hamidullah paid a courtesy call on Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi. “Our conversation was focused on advancing our bilateral ties,” said the Indian Minister after the meeting.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting came amid Indian media reports that suggest Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman is expected to make a brief visit to New Delhi. This visit would be the first since the new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was formed. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma recently expressed optimism about the future of Bangladesh-India relations.
He emphasized the shared history and deep cultural ties between the two nations, which were strengthened by their joint sacrifices during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. These historical bonds continue to unite the peoples of both countries. Verma highlighted the potential for both nations to work collaboratively to achieve shared prosperity, benefiting not only their own countries but the wider region as well.
The Indian High Commissioner reiterated that India has always supported and will continue to support a democratic, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh.
