Dhaka: A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to death for the murder of his wife in 2012. The ruling was delivered by Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shahidul Islam, who convicted Jibon Hossain, also known as Mukul, in absentia. In addition to the death sentence, the court issued a warrant for his arrest and imposed a fine of Tk 10,000.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Jibon, an employee at a furniture shop in Chattogram, married Fahima Begum in 2012, and the couple had a six-month-old son. Shortly before the incident, they relocated to the Bhatara area of Dhaka. Jibon was reportedly involved with another woman, leading to frequent abuse of Fahima.
On September 17, 2012, the couple went to sleep after dinner, but the following day, neighbors heard the cries of Fahima’s son from their residence. Upon entering, they found Fahima with her legs tied and unresponsive. Her brother, Sirajul Islam, subsequently filed a case against Jibon at the Bhatara Police Station.
The police submitted the charge sheet against Jibon on September 18, 2014, leading to the recent court verdict.
