Dhaka:A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for actress Pori Moni in connection with an attempted murder case. The warrant was issued after Pori Moni failed to appear for a scheduled hearing on Wednesday. The case was filed by Nasir Uddin Mahmood, the former president of the Dhaka Boat Club Limited.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman ordered the arrest warrant after canceling the bail previously granted to Pori Moni. This decision followed requests from the complainant's lawyer for bail cancellation and a plea from Pori Moni's lawyer for an adjournment, citing her inability to attend due to an allergy-related illness.
The case dates back to July 6, 2021, when Nasir Uddin filed charges against Pori Moni and two others, accusing them of assault, intimidation, and other misconduct at the Boat Club. An investigation by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) substantiated these allegations against Pori Moni and her costume designer, but found no evidence against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni.
The court had previously framed charges on January 26 of the previous year and started the trial, during which an arrest warrant was initially issued. Pori Moni surrendered and secured bail at that time. However, recent developments, including the acceptance of the PBI's report, have led to the current arrest warrant.
