Dhaka: Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today emphasized the potential for enhanced cooperation with Bhutan, particularly focusing on hydropower trade, which could mutually benefit both nations. His comments came during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Hossain welcomed Ambassador Dorjee and congratulated her on her new appointment. He expressed confidence that the friendly relations between Dhaka and Thimphu would deepen further during her tenure. The Adviser highlighted that the two countries have seen growing collaboration across various sectors over the years.
The discussions between the two sides also touched upon trade-related issues, emphasizing the need to convene the next round of the Commerce Secretary Level Meeting. This meeting would explore avenues to expand bilateral trade. Ambassador Dorjee expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and cooperation extended by the Government of Bangladesh to Bhutan.
Ambassador Dorjee also briefed Adviser Hossain on Bhutan’s ‘Gelephu Mindfulness City’ initiative, a transformative development vision for her country. In response, the Adviser assured the Ambassador of all possible cooperation from Bangladesh during her assignment in Dhaka.
