Police restricted the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in the city’s New Market area on Wednesday night as the students of Dhaka College (DC) engaged in multiple clashes close to the Teachers Training College (TTC) students for allegedly beating up three DC students.

Several cocktail blasts have been reported in the area after the clash broke out at around 9 pm, police said.

DC students surrounded the TTC with rods, sharp weapons and hockey sticks in their hands. They have been throwing brickbats and trying to break the gate of TTC to get in, said people in the area.

A DC student said that three students of their school’s North Hall were beaten at TTC. Then the students of North Hall and other DC dorms started attacking and storming TTC.

However, he couldn’t clarify the reason for beating up the three.

New Market Police Inspector Ghiyasuddin said that police are trying to bring the situation under control. Forces from nearby areas would arrive at the scene.

Meanwhile, pedestrians claimed that DC students are snatching their mobile phones. Besides, bikers are being beaten and their helmets are being taken away from them.
