Dhaka: The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) unveiled the second edition of the 'DCCI Journal of Business and Economic Policy (DJBEP)' and the 'Tax Guide 2025-26' at a ceremony held at the DCCI Auditorium in the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was graced by Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, as the chief guest. The ceremony also saw the presence of Dr. Zaidi Sattar, Chairman of the Policy Research Institute Bangladesh and Chief Editor of the Journal, along with G M Abul Kalam Kaikobad, Member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), as special guests.

Mahbubur Rahman emphasized that while Bangladesh has initiated several measures to spur economic growth, the desired economic level is yet to be achieved, leaving significant room for improvement. He acknowledged DCCI's research contributions and highlighted the potential of targeted studies and publications to play a proactive role in the country's economic advancement.

Dr. Zaidi Sattar pointed out alarming rises in poverty levels as reported by various institutions, reflecting concerns about the economy. He advocated for expanding employment opportunities and emphasized the importance of focusing on export-oriented industrialization. Sattar also called for urgent reforms in trade and investment policies to enhance Bangladesh's export opportunities globally, expressing confidence that the journal by DCCI will substantially influence future economic strategies.

G M Abul Kalam Kaikobad noted that the DCCI's Tax Guide will facilitate the online tax payment process. With nearly 2 million taxpayers already using the system, NBR anticipates at least 5 million users this year, aiming to bring convenience, reduce harassment, and ensure transparency in revenue administration.

DCCI President Taskin Ahmed, in his remarks, highlighted the chamber's four-decade tradition of publishing the 'DCCI Tax Guide' to inform its members about updates in tax laws. He stressed the importance of expanding the tax net, fully automating revenue payments, and reforming tax policies to sustain development and increase the Tax-GDP ratio.

Ahmed further detailed DCCI's ongoing research and sector-specific recommendations for economic advancement. The newly published edition of the DCCI Journal includes research on macroeconomics, skills development, international trade, and other key areas, which could guide future policies for both government and private sectors.

The event also had the presence of DCCI Vice President Md. Salem Sulaiman and board members.
