Dhaka: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has directed all government hospitals in the country to increase beds to cope with the pressure of measles patients.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release issued today stated that hospitals must not turn away measles or suspected measles patients due to a shortage of beds. This directive, signed by the Director of the Department of Health (Hospitals and Clinics), Dr. Abu Hossain Md. Mainul Ahsan, requires immediate implementation by all government hospitals.
The directive emphasizes that patients displaying measles symptoms should be admitted regardless of bed availability, and additional beds should be arranged if necessary. In cases where a patient's condition is critical, referrals for advanced treatment are permitted. The referral must adhere to the prescribed chain, progressing from upazila health complexes to district hospitals, medical college hospitals, and specialized hospitals.
The directive also warned that failure to comply would result in accountability measures against the heads of the concerned hospitals.
