Development Must Protect Nature, Not Destroy It: Rizwana

Gazipur: Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan today emphasized that development must not come at the expense of nature’s destruction. She articulated this viewpoint during her address at the National Inter-College Cultural and Debate Competition-2025, held at the National University in Gazipur.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana highlighted the critical relationship between development and environmental conservation, stressing that all forms of development should proceed with nature in mind. She underscored the intrinsic connection between identity and natural elements like rivers, urging that these should not be polluted. Rizwana emphasized the importance of preserving rivers, trees, and hills, and the necessity for the message of nature to resonate with the people.



Rizwana, who is also the Adviser to the Ministry of Water Resources, underscored the pivotal role of youth in shaping the nation’s future. She expressed confidence in the young generation’s ability to confront challenges and serve as the cornerstone for a new Bangladesh. Emphasizing unity among young people, she noted that united efforts can overcome any problem and stressed the importance of eliminating societal discrimination to construct a beautiful Bangladesh.



The event was chaired by National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. SM Amanullah, with other dignitaries including Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Md. Lutfar Rahman and Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, and Treasurer Professor Dr. A. T. M. Zafarul Azam also addressing the gathering.



Following the speech, the Adviser distributed prizes, crests, and certificates to the winners of the competition. She also paid a visit to Belai Beel in Gazipur.
