Dhaka:Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal declared there is no possibility of reconciliation with the ousted Awami League regime due to their severe actions against citizens, which he claims have permanently disqualified them from political participation.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Deputy Speaker expressed these views during the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026 at a local hotel. He emphasized that the transition from autocracy to democracy is still threatened by remnants of the previous regime and that true justice requires dismantling impunity rather than symbolic gestures.

Kayser Kamal criticized global reconciliation efforts, arguing that they often shield perpetrators from legal consequences. He stated that the change on August 5, 2024, marked a significant political shift as citizens rejected a regime characterized by fear and suppression of civil liberties.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted the regime's disregard for the rule of law, citing a UN report that attributed 1,600 deaths, including children, to the July-August uprising. He praised the new generation's fight for democracy and equal rights, stressing the importance of justice to prevent future authoritarianism.

Kamal warned against attempts by the former regime to regain political relevance through terrorism, criticizing those who advocate for reconciliation. He stressed that reconciliation with a regime that weaponized the state against its people is not possible.

He concluded by affirming Bangladesh's commitment to economic stability and accountability, ensuring autocracy remains a closed chapter. Other speakers at the session included international experts and journalists.
