Cumilla: BNP Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu today stated that individuals who deny the 1971 Liberation War and the democratic rights of the people are not entitled to participate in politics within Bangladesh. Bulu made these remarks during the inauguration of the Cumilla South District BNP conference at the Cumilla Town Hall ground this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bulu criticized the Proportional Representative (PR) system, claiming that a vested group is promoting the PR system to disrupt the election process. He emphasized that people desire to vote for representatives who will support them through challenges and triumphs, work towards their development, and maintain a presence in their constituencies.
He encouraged voters to support the BNP's symbol, "sheaf of paddy," in the upcoming election to uphold the development legacy initiated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Bulu highlighted Ziaur Rahman's pivotal role in declaring independence in 1971 and his contributions to transforming Bangladesh into a nation recognized globally for its economic and moral strength.
Recalling the period when Khaleda Zia served as Prime Minister, Bulu noted the provision of stipends and opportunities for free education to female students, which significantly increased access to education for girls across the nation.
BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed served as the chief discussant during the conference. Former MPs Monirul Hoque Chowdhury and Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin, Cumilla Divisional Organizing Secretary Principal Selim Bhuiyan, BNP Central Industry Affairs Secretary Md. Abul Kalam, Assistant Divisional Organizing Secretary Md. Mostak Mia, and Cumilla City BNP President Udbatul Bari Abu participated as special guests.
Cumilla South District BNP Convener Jakaria Taher Suman presided over the event, while Member Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Mahmud Wasim conducted it. Central and local BNP leaders also delivered speeches during the occasion.
