Dhaka: Five more people died of dengue and 1,484 new patients were hospitalised across the country in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday. With the latest fatalities, the dengue death toll has risen to 176 in the country this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to United News of Bangladesh, among the deaths, four were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation, while the remaining casualty was recorded in Rangpur division. Since January 1 this year, a total of 58,400 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 54,092 have recovered.
The increasing number of cases and deaths highlights the growing concern over the dengue outbreak. Public health officials are urging citizens to take preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes.
Efforts are being intensified in affected areas to control the mosquito population. Health authorities are also working to ensure that hospitals are equipped to handle the surge in dengue cases.
