Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today stated that democracy will triumph in the upcoming national parliamentary election. He emphasized the significance of the election as not merely a victory for the BNP but a triumph for democratic values. Chowdhury made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony at the conclusion of the BNP's seven-day programme titled 'Plan for Nation Building' held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khasru highlighted the event as part of BNP's commitment to fulfilling the vision of Tarique Rahman for the nation's future. He expressed anticipation for Rahman's return to Bangladesh's politics on December 25, marking it as a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle to restore democratic order. Khasru described Rahman as a leading figure in the movement for democracy, whose leadership unified and propelled the nation towards success.
Khasru also addressed recent incidents of violence, specifically mentioning the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, President of the Chittagong Metropolitan area. He expressed concern over these events occurring at a critical time for national stability. Emphasizing the BNP's vision for a new political culture in Bangladesh, he remarked on the people's resilience in the face of 17 years of oppression and the shift in public sentiment after August 5, 2024.
He contrasted this vision with what he described as politics rooted in mobocracy, force, and disrespect, which he deemed harmful to the democratic process in Bangladesh. Khasru urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant and attentive to these issues.
In outlining the BNP's governance plan, Khasru stressed the importance of delivering both political and economic democracy to all citizens. He asserted that immediate efforts would be made to ensure these benefits reach everyone once the BNP assumes power. Prioritizing investment in education and healthcare over large-scale development projects, he argued, is essential for sustainable national development and meeting basic needs.
The event, presided over by BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and moderated by Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, saw participation from BNP leaders nationwide.
