Tangail: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku declared that democracy has flourished in Bangladesh under the leadership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He credited Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for delivering multiparty democracy to the nation by ending BAKSAL, asserting that the people have nurtured democracy under BNP’s guidance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tuku made these remarks while addressing a public rally at Shaheed Smriti Poura Udyan in Tangail city, celebrating BNP’s 48th founding anniversary. He highlighted the efforts of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who led a nine-year movement for democracy, resulting in the establishment of parliamentary democracy.
Tuku emphasized that BNP has consistently supported pro-democracy movements, including the 2024 student-people uprising. He reiterated that the party, founded by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who proclaimed independence, has never acted against democratic principles.
The state minister also discussed government initiatives under the six-month-old administration, which include implementing electoral pledges such as Family Cards, Farmer Cards, and support for imams and muezzins. He mentioned projects like canal excavation, tree plantation, and distribution of bags and uniforms to school students.
Tuku warned of ongoing conspiracies to undermine Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, and democracy, urging the populace to unite against anti-democratic forces. The rally was presided over by Tangail District unit of BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen and moderated by former District BNP Member Secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam, former District BNP Vice-President Ali Imam Tapan, along with BNP leaders and activists.
