Defence Adviser Urges Strengthening of Domestic Capability for Maritime Security

Narayanganj: Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam today emphasized that bolstering domestic capability should be the cornerstone of enhancing the nation’s maritime security. He articulated these views during his visit to the Bangladesh Navy-operated Narayanganj Dockyard, aiming to reinforce the country’s defence capacity and naval strength.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser was briefed on the comprehensive activities of the dockyard, which include shipbuilding and repair capabilities, modern technical facilities, infrastructural development, and current development projects under the Bangladesh Navy. During his visit, he explored various installations, workshops, production zones, and repair facilities within the dockyard.

Dr Shamsul Islam underscored the significance of advancing the domestic naval industry, highlighting that expanding local shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance capabilities is critical for safeguarding national security, naval strength, and maritime interests. He stressed the transformation of Narayanganj Dockyard into a modern and proficient naval industrial establishment through enhancements in shipbuilding and maintenance capacity.

The ISPR release mentioned that the adviser emphasized the importance of quality, punctuality, technological efficiency, and professionalism in all dockyard activities. He instructed the relevant authorities to elevate the institution’s capabilities by leveraging modern technology, developing skilled manpower through training, and implementing strategic management.

He asserted that national defence preparedness should be advanced by maximizing the use of domestic resources, local expertise, and indigenous technology. Dr Shamsul Islam described the dockyard as a crucial pillar of the country’s maritime capability and self-reliance, urging that all projects and initiatives align with national interests.

The Defence Adviser commended the professionalism, dedication, and efficiency of the officers, engineers, technical personnel, and employees at the dockyard, encouraging them to work with patriotism and a heightened sense of responsibility. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Navy and Narayanganj Dockyard were present during the visit.
