Deep depression in Bay intensifies into cyclonic storm ‘Asani’

The deep depression over the Southeast Bay and adjoining area moved Northwestwards and intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over the same area.

It was centered at 6 am on Sunday about 1255 Kms South-Southwest of Chattogram port, 1175 kms South-Southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1250 kms South of Mongla port and 1205 kms South of Payra port .

It is likely to intensify further and move in a Northwesterly direction, said a Met office bulletin.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 Kms of the cyclonic storm centre is about 62 Kph rising to 88 Kph in gusts or squalls.

Sea will remain very rough near the cyclonic center.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant warning Signal No 2 instead of signal No 1 .

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.

They are also advised no to venture into the deep sea.

Rain, thundershowers likely in 8 divisions

According to a regular weather bulletin, rain or thundershowers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

Mild heat wave is sweeping over the regions of Rangamati, Sayedpur, Khulna, Mongla, Satkhira and Jashore districts and it may continue and spread.

Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the Met office bulletin said.
