Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the Election Commission (EC) will make a decision regarding BNP leader Ishraque Hossain’s potential assumption of office as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) once it officially receives the copy of the verdict from the Appellate Division. “We didn’t get the copy of the verdict of the Appellate Division till now. After getting the copy we will examine the legal aspects and will do what we have to do,” he informed reporters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made this statement following a meeting with other election commissioners at his office. The Appellate Division, which disposed of a Leave to Appeal with observation today, is yet to provide the official verdict documentation. The full bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, issued the order following a session in which the arguments of both the petitioner’s lawyer and the counsel of Ishraque were heard.
