Dhaka: Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Taskeen Ahmed today urged all the ports of the country to keep their export-import activities normal during the long vacation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and other festivals. "During the long holiday, all ports should keep their export-import activities normal," he said in a press statement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the leader of one of the largest trade organizations in the country, Taskeen Ahmed, emphasized that most importers rely on Chittagong Port for importing goods. He highlighted that traffic congestion on the highway, inadequate infrastructure facilities at the port, and delays in the unloading process lead to significant traffic issues in the port area, posing challenges for importers across various industry sectors.
Ahmed further stated that without improvements to the supply chain, logistics management, and communication infrastructure at Chittagong Port, merely increasing the store rent four-fold will raise business costs and cause the country to fall behind competing nations regarding logistic costs.
