Jamalpur: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football tournament commenced at the Freedom Fighter Abdul Hakim Stadium in Jamalpur district town this afternoon. The event marks a significant occasion for local football enthusiasts and players alike, as the tournament promises competitive matches and community engagement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tournament was inaugurated by Secretary of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Ministry, Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, who attended as the chief guest. The opening ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum, highlighting the importance of sports in fostering community spirit and youth development.
The event also featured speeches from Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam and President of the Mymensingh Divisional Football Association, Abdullah Al Fuad Reduan. Their presence underscored the collaborative efforts of local authorities and sports associations in promoting football in the region.
The tournament features eight teams, divided into two groups, competing for the title. It is organized by the Jamalpur District Sports Association with the support of the Jamalpur District Football Association. On the opening day, Melandah Upazila Eleven secured a victory against Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Eleven with a close score of 3-2, setting the stage for a thrilling series of matches ahead.
