Dhaka: The Cute-BSPA Sports Carnival 2026 kicked off today with the much-anticipated carrom competition at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA). This two-week sporting event is sponsored by ‘Cute’, a brand under Moushumi Industries Limited, marking a significant collaboration aimed at promoting sports in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the carnival was officially inaugurated by National Sports Council Director Zahid Parvez Chowdhury, a former national footballer, and Asma Ashrafi Saklain, the executive director of Mousumi Industries Limited. During the opening ceremony, Zahid Parvez Chowdhury assured the organisers of comprehensive support from the government. Meanwhile, Asma Ashrafi Saklain expressed optimism about Cute’s continued role in fostering sports development.
The opening event also saw the presence of former BSPA general secretaries Aminul Haque Mallick and Samon Hossain, along with lifetime member Selim Nazrul Haque, among others. More than a hundred BSPA members are participating in this year’s carnival, competing in eight events spanning 12 disciplines.
The events feature a diverse range of competitions, including archery, carrom (both singles and doubles), table tennis (singles and doubles), chess, swimming, athletics (100 metres and shot put), card games (Call Bridge and Twenty-Nine), and shooting. All activities are set to take place at various venues within the Dhaka National Stadium Complex, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.
