Dhaka:Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized 12 kilograms of suspected gold paste from two passengers arriving from Dubai, valued at an estimated Tk 24 crore.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seizure occurred following a tip-off about potential gold smuggling on Emirates flight EK586 from Dubai. A Dhaka Customs House preventive team conducted surveillance at various points within the airport.

The team intercepted two passengers, identified as CHEN LIYUN with passport No. EQ7440778, and MO XIAOYU with passport No. EQ3810272, after they completed immigration procedures and arrived at baggage belt No. 2. During the search, officials discovered soft, yellow-coloured gold paste concealed inside the passengers' jeans and underwear, stitched into the clothing with fabric.

A preliminary purity test confirmed that the seized material was 24-carat gold. Dhaka Customs House is proceeding with legal actions against the passengers under the Customs Act, 2023, and other pertinent criminal laws.
