Chattogram: All-out preparations are underway to hold the election of Chattogram University Central Students' Union (CUCSU), halls and hostel unions on October 15. After a break of 36 years, the campus is buzzing with excitement as students, teachers, and administration gear up activities for the upcoming election. The university administration and the Election Commission have made extensive preparations to ensure the highest level of security and transparency in the election process. The commission aims to showcase this election as a 'model election' by implementing technology-based monitoring, robust security measures, and rigorous oversight.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CUCSU Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Prof Dr Monir Uddin shared insights in an exclusive interview regarding the overall preparations of the election. Dr. Monir Uddin expressed his confidence in the students as a source of security, mentioning that there has been no need to involve law enforcement due to the peaceful conduct of campaign activities by the students.
Dr. Uddin explained that the election commission operates independently, with support from the university administration, particularly from Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin. The autonomy afforded by the administration ensures that the election process is conducted without interference, which is crucial for maintaining transparency and fairness.
To address any concerns regarding impartiality, Dr. Uddin assured that any complaints from candidates are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. The election commission members have pledged to prioritize the interests of the students over personal beliefs or affiliations, ensuring any illegal activities are addressed promptly.
In terms of transparency and fairness, the commission has implemented several measures. The voter list has been meticulously prepared, and the voting process has been moved to faculty buildings for convenience. Security features such as transparent ballot boxes and unique security codes on ballots have been introduced to prevent fraud. A multi-layered security system, including CCTV monitoring and LED screens displaying the voting process, is in place to ensure transparency during balloting and counting.
The vote counting process will be conducted with precision, with ballots scanned and results verified by both the Dean's Office and the University's IT Office. Innovations from other university elections have been incorporated, and the ballot paper design has been enhanced for clarity.
Security arrangements are comprehensive, with traffic management, mobile courts, and multiple security personnel ensuring a safe environment. Special assistance, including increased shuttle train schedules and buses, is provided for voters, along with regular updates on the voting process.
Dr. Monir Uddin conveyed his gratitude for the support from voters and candidates, encouraging them to participate positively and make informed choices. He emphasized that the success of the election lies in the hands of the students and their ability to select deserving representatives, aiming to set an example for the nation and the world.
