Chittagong: The Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries (FMSF) at the University of Chittagong (CU) has launched a two-week international training workshop titled “Modern Statistical Techniques in Environment, Ecology and Geology.” The workshop, which began on Wednesday, is being held at the FMSF auditorium and will continue until August 18, a press release said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, around 70 participants, including researchers, academics, and students from both home and abroad, are taking part in the event. CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yeahia Akhter formally inaugurated the workshop, while the opening session was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Ohidul Alam, Chairman of the Department of Marine Sciences.
On the first day, Professor Dr. Zhihua Zhang of Shandong University, China, presented the keynote paper. Speaking at the event, CU Vice-Chancellor underscored the importance of the workshop in the context of global environmental challenges. He emphasized that accurate data and advanced statistical techniques are crucial for addressing pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, marine resource protection, and natural disasters.
