Chattogram: The authority of Chattogram University (CU) today formed a 21-member probe committee to investigate the cause of the August 30 clashes between CU students and local inhabitants.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee is headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin and includes CU syndicate members, S M Fazlul Haque, a former CUSCU VP, and representatives from various student organizations. This action comes amid rising tensions following the recent violent incidents on campus.
The CU authority has also decided to postpone all scheduled exams until September 4 due to the volatile situation. This decision follows the clash on Saturday, which resulted in injuries to numerous individuals, including CU Pro VC (Admin) Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin and Proctor Tanvir Haider, who were injured while attempting to quell the violence.
The postponement was officially announced through a notification signed by Acting Controller of Examinations, Professor Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, at 7 PM on Sunday. The notice also stated that new exam dates would be announced in due course.
The clash erupted on Saturday night at Gate No. 2 of the university, involving students and local Jobra villagers, lasting from 12 am Saturday to 3 pm Sunday. In response, the Hathazari upazila administration imposed section 144 to restore order.
A joint force contingent has been patrolling the CU campus and surrounding areas, conducting searches to apprehend those involved in the clash. As of the latest report, two individuals have been detained, although their identities remain unconfirmed.
