Dhaka: A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has arrested four individuals, including the alleged ring leader, for stealing Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) cables in the capital. The arrests were made from Mohammadpur and Hazaribagh areas on Sunday evening by CTTC’s Special Action Group in connection with a case filed with Kalabagan Police Station.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individuals have been identified as Ibrahim, 30, Humayun Kabir, 49, Md Julhas, 30, and Md Babul, 35. Police reported that the operation was executed based on intelligence information and the analysis of CCTV footage from the affected areas.
The police further revealed that the accused impersonated BTCL employees to carry out their thefts. They targeted underground and overhead cables in different parts of the city during nighttime. The stolen cables were stripped for copper, which was then sold to local scrap traders.
Legal action has been taken against the arrested individuals, according to police.
