Dhaka: Customs House, Chattogram has announced plans to conduct an electronic auction of 442 containers of uncleared goods in August. This move aims to alleviate container congestion at Chattogram Port, improve its operational capacity, and prevent the wastage of state resources.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the customs authorities routinely organize auctions for uncleared and auctionable goods as a measure to optimize port facilities and secure the physical and financial safety of assets. A recent press release highlighted that 290 containers, grouped into 101 lots, will be put up for bid under Special E-Auction No. 10/2026. This auction will be conducted following the guidelines set by the National Board of Revenue's Permanent Order No. 91/Customs/2025/123 and Special Order No. 82/2025.
The auctioned lots will encompass a range of items, including chemicals, machinery, plastic waste, scrap, chest freezers, pipes, various types of yarn and fabrics, solar modules, salts, paper, tiles, and household goods. Additionally, 86 old empty containers will be available. Notably, no reserved value will be set for the goods in Special E-Auction No. 10/2026.
In a separate event, 152 containers divided into 109 lots will be sold under E-Auction No. 09/2026, also adhering to the NBR's Permanent Order. Items in this auction will include capital machinery, fabrics, PVC flex banners, chemicals, air-conditioner parts, tiles, stainless steel coils, scanners, badminton rackets, elevators, and salt, among other goods.
The customs authorities emphasized that the entire auction process will be conducted digitally to ensure transparency and competitiveness. Prospective bidders are invited to physically inspect the goods under E-Auction No. 09/2026 from August 30 to September 13, and for Special E-Auction No. 10/2026 from August 30 to September 15, during office hours.
Interested participants can register via the Customs' official e-auction portal, auction.bdcustoms.gov.bd, and submit their bids online. For E-Auction No. 09/2026, bidding opens on August 27 and closes at 3:00 pm on September 16. For Special E-Auction No. 10/2026, the timeline extends from August 27 to 3:00 pm on September 17.
Bidders must upload a scanned copy of a security deposit amounting to at least 10 percent of their proposed bid during the online process and submit the necessary original documents within the given timeframe. Successful bidders must adhere to the conditions outlined in the Import Policy Order 2021-2024 before collecting the auctioned items.
The bid boxes for E-Auction No. 09/2026 will be opened at 3:30 pm on September 16, while those for Special E-Auction No. 10/2026 will be opened at 11:00 am on September 20.
The customs authorities have encouraged interested bidders to visit the official e-auction portal for more information on the auctions, including details on the lots and bidding procedures. The NBR anticipates that the technology-driven auction process will significantly enhance the capacity of Chattogram Port and facilitate the efficient management of national resources.
